I like this idea and do think it could be adapted for public school; however, the student has indicated that -5 is a whole number which is incorrect. -5 is real, rational and integer, but by definition whole numbers are nonnegative.
I too think it would be an adaptable game for public school. You could simply do away with the liquid portion of the game and concentrate on bouncing the correct ping pong ball in the correct cup. Great job catching the student mistake!
