What If You Grew At The Rate Of Grass?

Here's a comical way to start a Monday.

"Class, for the next 60 seconds we are going to watch grass grow. Please remain silent"

After 60 brutal seconds of kids snickering and giggling. Pose the following two questions,

"Why can't you see grass growing"
"What if you grew at the rate of grass?"

1) Have everyone write down their thoughts on the questions?

2) Next, using the following informal statistic "grass may grow 2-6 inches per week (depending on temperature, humidity, time of year, etc.), how fast would it grow per day, per hour, per min, per sec?

3) Ask your students to calculate their change in height, using the same data after a sec, a min, an hour, a day.

Now, pose the same two questions,

"Why can't you see grass growing"
"What if you grew at the rate of grass?"
