Concavity While Driving

Soon enough your students will be deriving points of inflection in their college calculus classes but for now lets get them used to the language of concavity

Class work:


Have students watch the following video and count the amount of convex and concave turns the vehicle goes through (Using the reference point of the driver’s side of the road)




Homework:



Now, for their homework, have students count the amount of convex and concave turns they go through on their way home from school. Have them determine the concavity using the reference point of the driver’s side of the road.
